Action on discovering a fire:

Raise the alarm by activation of call point if available and shouting

Leave the site/building by the safest route and wait at the evacuation point specified below for further instructions

Do Not fight the fire unless safe to do so

Do Not stop to collect any personal possessions on the way out

Do Not return to the building until told to do so by the Fire Brigade

Staff are to assist in the evacuation of visitors paying particular attention to disabled persons

The company refutes the notion that the alarm should be raised only in the event of a “large” fire.  All employees are empowered to take this action if they believe there is a fire; no authority should or is required to be sought from any other person. The company will always support employees who raise the alarm in good faith, regardless of whether or not it is ultimately determined that a fire existed.

Responsibility for summoning the fire brigade lies firstly with the senior person.   Where circumstances dictate the person discovering the fire may call the fire brigade after raising the alarm within the premises.
